Departmental policy change hailed by students

The dreaded 9.50am hard copy assignment submission requirement is to be scrapped from September, Kinguistics has learned. Claire Cooper, senior taught programmes officer revealed the news recently to students’ delight.
‘From September 2016 the Department of Education and Professional Studies (DEPS) are introducing electronic marking across all programmes. Students will no longer have to submit hard copy coursework, with the exception of the dissertation’.
This landmark policy change has been partly introduced due to repeated student feedback on the inconvenience it causes. Paridhi Agarwal, a Y2 Student Rep, hailed the importance of student views.
‘This is great news that highlights the power of the student voice. I am delighted that printouts will be a thing of the past’. For Jakub Watemborski, a second year student living in High Barnet, the scrapping of this policy will reduce the hassle of coming into university solely for an arduous task.
‘Living in Zone 5 and having to walk a sibling to school every morning, made the idea of a 9:50am hard-copy for me hell. I’d either have to finish things off as quickly as possible, submit online then travel to Central London the same day to print and submit the hard-copy or count on someone agreeing to submitting it for me. The policy change eradicates the pointless stress, time and money spent as well as a more eco-friendly way to go about assignments.’
Although remaining coursework pieces for this academic year will still need to be handed in as a hard copy, Claire has assured that this might not necessarily be for all assignments and that any instances of hard copies not being required, will be emailed to the individual students affected.
So even though the dissertation will still need to be printed out, students can certainly use the pennies they have saved from assignment printing in our very own department coffee machine. (WBW 2.6, coffee for only 30p!)
